Arnold Lowrey has been painting for 35 years. He has regular exhibitions of his
paintings in the South Wales area and has had work accepted and exhibited in the Royal Institute of Painters in
Watercolour exhibition at the Mall Galleries in London. He has won first prize in the annual exhibition of the
South Wales Art Society together with best acrylic, best portrait and best still life.
In addition, he has won the portrait prize in the same exhibition and was also chosen as the public's choice in
both the 1999 and 2000 Christmas Art Exhibitions at St David's Hall, Cardiff.
He is a painting demonstrator for major art material suppliers e.g. Winsor & Newton, . and Art
Profile and regularly provides painting demonstrations to Art Societies
throughout South Wales and Southern England.
He has demonstrated for a number of years for Winsor & Newton products for BAM at the Creakiv exhibition products in Zurich,
Switzerland.
He now runs weekly painting courses in the Cardiff area.
Over the past sixteen years, a considerable number of artists have attended
these courses, which are mainly watercolour but occasionally cover acrylics, pastels and oils. The subjects of his paintings vary from landscapes to still life, portraiture, abstracts
etc. The courses are currently located at Taffs Well Rugby Club, Taffs Well, Near Cardiff.
His motivation is a desire for good shapes and texture in his paintings but foremost is his desire to interpret
his feelings for each subject using colour and luminosity.
His residential watercolour courses at Urchfont
manor, near Devizes, Wiltshire, The Hill Centre, Pennypound, Abergavenny,
and The Farncombe Estate centre, Broadway, Cotswolds.
In 2007 he tutored workshops in Dallas Texas and
will return again is September 2008.

In 2001, Search Press published his first book entitled "Sea
& Sky in Watercolour" . His next book entitled “Watercolour
Tips and Techniques – Starting to Paint” was published in November 2002. Starting to Paint is also published in
Italian and Dutch, Russian and Arabic. His third book, "Painting in Acrylics" was published in 2006. These
have already sold 130,000 copies worldwide.
He is currently writing his fourth book (watercolour) entitled "Ready to Paint- Hills and Mountains" which will be published in December 2008
To compliment these books, he has made a four hour long videos/ DVDs containing full demonstrations of his paintings and afurther 6- twenty minute ones.
Another 9 DVDs will be filmed in July 2008 - 3 to compliment the new book and a set of 6 using soft pastels - these should be available at the end of this year.
His latest venture is as an art instructor on Cruise Liners-his first one being in November 2008 (see Events page)
In his "spare time", he enjoys his computer and jazz music.
